Life has a funny way of convincing us that everything deserves our immediate attention.
The overflowing inbox. The group text that's somehow turned into an argument. The neighbor who insists on blowing leaves every Saturday morning at 6am. The person in front of you who orders a coffee with what sounds like an entire grocery list of modifications.
Meanwhile, Gene has a bowl of pasta.

Honestly, Gene might be onto something.
We live in a world that's incredibly good at creating drama. It shows up in our news feeds, our notifications, our meetings, and sometimes even in line at the grocery store. You don't have to go looking for it. Drama has a remarkable ability to find you all on its own.
Pasta, on the other hand, has never once started an argument.
Why Is It Always Pasta?
There's a reason comfort food has earned its name.
Nobody gets home after a long day, opens the refrigerator, and thinks, "What I really need right now is more conflict."
What most of us want is something familiar. Something warm. Something that doesn't ask anything from us except maybe whether we'd like parmesan on top.
Pasta isn't trying to improve your productivity. It doesn't care whether you've answered every email or crossed everything off your to-do list. It simply shows up, tastes good, and quietly makes the day feel a little more manageable.
If we're choosing between carbs and drama, the carbs have a perfect track record.
Gene Has His Priorities
Picture Gene sitting down with a bowl of pasta.
Across the room, two pigeons are arguing over a french fry. Someone spills their coffee. A squirrel is making choices that will almost certainly become someone else's problem.
Gene notices all of it.
He just decides that finishing lunch is a better use of his energy.
That's one of the reasons we love him. Gene isn't pretending the chaos doesn't exist. He's simply decided that not everything deserves his participation.
Carbs Are Almost Always Better Than Drama
We've thought about this quite a bit, and we're prepared to stand by it.
Carbs are warm.
Drama raises your blood pressure.
Carbs bring people together.
Drama usually sends someone storming out of the room.
Carbs have given us garlic bread.
Drama has given us reply-all emails.
This isn't a particularly difficult decision.
Choosing Your Battles
At some point, most of us realize we can't care deeply about everything.
You can't solve every disagreement on the internet.
You can't fix every misunderstanding.
You probably don't need to replay that awkward conversation from three days ago for the fifteenth time.
Some things deserve your attention.
Some things deserve another helping of pasta.
Learning the difference might be one of life's more underrated skills.
It's Not Really About Pasta
Well... it's a little about pasta. But mostly it's about permission.
Permission to stop refreshing your inbox for five minutes.
Permission to let someone else have the last word.
Permission to admit that not every opinion requires a response and not every inconvenience deserves to become the story of your day.
Sometimes the healthiest choice isn't doing more. Sometimes it's making dinner, sitting down, and remembering that tomorrow is another day.
Why We Made the Shirt
When we designed the More Pasta, Less Drama shirt, we weren't trying to convince anyone that pasta solves every problem.

It definitely doesn't.
But it does remind us that life feels lighter when we stop giving unnecessary drama so much of our attention.
The phrase is playful, but there's a little truth hiding inside it. Most of us would probably be happier if we spent less time feeding the drama and a little more time feeding ourselves.
Gene certainly would.
Things That Pair Well With Pasta
- Garlic bread.
- Friends who don't create unnecessary drama.
- A favorite hoodie.
- Watching the same movie for the fifteenth time.
- Saying, "We'll figure it out tomorrow."
- Laughing at yourself.
- A second helping.
Not necessarily in that order.
Final Thoughts
The world isn't going to run out of drama anytime soon.
There will always be another argument, another notification, another thing demanding your attention.
Pasta has a different philosophy.
Sit down.
Take a breath.
Add a little parmesan.
Remember that carbs are almost always better than drama.
Gene wouldn't say that's the answer to everything.
But he'd probably offer you another forkful anyway.
