Every October, the Capy Life house goes through a transformation that starts with one idea and ends in full-blown neighborhood theater.

Skeletons re-emerge, props get repurposed, and what began as a few decorations turns into a creative production—conceived and led by Capy Life’s Founder, Leader, Creative Director, and Family Inspiration (aka Lisa), with the rest of us happily in supporting roles.

Halloween at our home isn’t about scaring people. It’s about storytelling, humor, and the joy of turning an ordinary yard into a world that makes people smile (and sometimes pull over to take pictures).

A New World Every October

Each year brings a new theme and a new excuse for chaos. Last year, the lawn was haunted by Beetlejuice. The year before that, the Stranger Things crew took over the bushes. And this year? We’re off to see the wizard.

Our Wizard of Oz display is part tribute to the upcoming Wicked movie, part nostalgic love letter to the original, and fully Capy Life in spirit—colorful, imaginative, and a little unbothered by perfection.

The Chaos Behind the Calm

Our decorating tradition looks calm once it’s done, but behind the scenes it’s equal parts art project, family debate, and glue-gun warfare.

Everyone gets involved: the kids pitch ideas, I stake stuff into the ground, Lisa oversees the creative vision, designs costumes dressed skeletons and brings things to life. Our dogs try to get glue out of their fur.

By the end, the lawn looks like a movie set, and our garage looks like the aftermath of one. But every year, it’s worth it—because the joy it sparks (for us and our neighbors) is the real treat.

And if you happen to see us out there in our Capy Life hoodies, sipping from unbothered mugs while rearranging skeleton limbs, know this: comfort is key when you’re chasing creative chaos.

The Trick-or-Treat Tradition

Every Halloween evening, our house becomes the unofficial base camp for our kids and their friends.

They arrive early in costume, devour pizza, pose for photos in front of the display, and then set off in a sugar-fueled swarm. For a couple of hours, our driveway becomes a parade of laughter, glitter, and candy wrappers—and honestly, it’s one of our favorite parts of the whole season.

Some of the adults hang back with cocoa or cider in hand (usually in our Wizardry & Witchcraft mugs, because on theme is on brand). It’s cozy chaos at its finest.

Why We Keep Doing It

For us, Halloween isn’t just about costumes and candy—it’s about creativity, connection, and being joyfully weird together.

Capy Life was built from that same energy: the belief that life is better when you embrace what makes you different, lean into laughter, and find comfort in the chaos.

Until Next Year…

We don’t know what next year’s theme will be yet (though there are rumors of pirates, aliens, or time travelers), but we do know we’ll be out there again—laughing, gluing, and creating something delightfully weird together.

Because for us, Halloween isn’t about pretending to be someone else. It’s about celebrating who we already are. 🦫

Whether you’re hosting a haunted pizza night or trick-or-treating under the stars, we’ve got cozy hoodies, witty mugs, and plenty of unbothered energy to keep you warm.
