There was probably a point in life when stickers were mostly for kids.
You got one at the dentist. You covered a notebook in them. Maybe you had an entire collection that you took very seriously despite having absolutely no intention of actually sticking any of them anywhere.
Then we grew up.
And somehow, stickers got better.
Now there are funny stickers for adults that can sum up your entire personality, current mood, or general approach to life in about four words. Put one on a laptop or water bottle and suddenly everyone knows that you don't enjoy small talk, you're probably thinking about snacks, and there's a decent chance you have no idea what you're doing.
Basically, stickers have become tiny personality tests you can stick on things.
And we are very much here for it.
Why Relatable Stickers Are So Funny
The best funny stickers usually aren't trying particularly hard to be funny. They just say the thing you've thought approximately 700 times but never considered putting on a water bottle.
“I can't. I'm busy.”
“You gonna finish that?”
“I'm not getting involved...”
Or perhaps, after attempting to use your brain for several minutes:
“I think mine's broken.”
There is something satisfying about seeing an oddly specific thought turned into a sticker. It's the same reason we send memes to friends with nothing more than this is you.
You recognize yourself immediately.
Sometimes Your Sticker Can Do the Talking
There are also certain things that are considerably easier to communicate through a capybara.
For example, you could tell everyone at work that you would prefer not to participate in unnecessary small talk.
Or you could put a sticker on your laptop featuring a capybara hiding under a blanket that says:
“Please, no small talk.”
Message received.
Funny stickers let you reveal just enough about yourself without actually having to make a big announcement about it. Your laptop, tumbler, or water bottle quietly handles the introductions for you.
There Is Apparently a Capybara for Every Situation
When I started drawing Gene and the other capybaras for Capy Life, I didn't necessarily expect them to become quite so good at representing the human condition.
And yet here we are.
Brain not functioning?
There's a capybara for that.
Trying to stay out of everyone else's drama?
Capybara.
Waiting to see whether someone is going to finish their food?
Definitely capybara.
Sitting peacefully outside at night and realizing you don't actually need anything else right now?
Capybara again.
Maybe it's their naturally unbothered expressions. Maybe it's because capybaras already look like they've seen quite enough for one day.
Either way, putting ordinary adult problems next to an extremely serious-looking capybara makes them significantly funnier.
Funny Stickers Make Surprisingly Good Little Gifts
Not every gift needs to be a whole production.
Sometimes you see something that immediately reminds you of someone.
A funny sticker for your coworker who wants absolutely nothing to do with office drama. A snack-related sticker for the friend who is always eyeing your fries. A ridiculous capybara for the teacher whose brain stopped functioning sometime around 2:30.
That's part of what makes relatable stickers such easy little gifts. You aren't just giving someone a sticker. You're essentially saying:
I saw this and unfortunately thought of you immediately.
Which is arguably one of the highest forms of friendship.
They also make fun additions to greeting cards, stocking stuffers, care packages, teacher gifts, coworker gifts, or those completely unnecessary little presents that sometimes end up being the funniest ones.
Where Do Adults Even Put Stickers?
This was admittedly easier when we were eight and willing to stick them directly onto our bedroom furniture.
As adults, we have slightly more restraint.
Slightly.
Water bottles and tumblers are obvious choices, but funny vinyl stickers also work well on laptops, tablets, notebooks, journals, planners, storage containers, and plenty of other everyday things that could use a little personality.
And unlike buying an entirely new accessory, swapping out a few stickers lets you make something feel like yours for just a few dollars.
Cute Is Good. Funny and Weirdly Accurate Is Better.
There will always be room in the world for cute stickers.
We make plenty of those too.
But my favorite designs tend to be the ones that make someone stop and say:
“Okay, that's me.”
That's what we're going for with the funny stickers at Capy Life.
They're not inspirational quotes telling you to wake up at 5 a.m., drink a green smoothie, and become the best possible version of yourself.
Sometimes Gene is lying in the water refusing to get involved.
Sometimes he's sitting in a chair watching fireflies because this is enough.
Sometimes he's staring directly at your dinner wondering whether you're planning to finish it.
And sometimes he would simply like a sweet treat.
Come to think of it, maybe capybaras have adulthood figured out better than we do.
