Capy Life is a family-run brand built around one simple philosophy:
Be a little more capybara.
Around here that means staying calm when life gets weird, laughing when things go sideways, and remembering that not everything needs to be taken so seriously.
Our small but chaotic team includes two parents, three wildly opinionated boys, and a couple of dogs who believe fences are merely suggestions. Between school runs, laundry piles, and occasional science-fair meltdowns, Capy Life became our creative outlet for turning everyday chaos into something funny, relatable, and a little bit chill.
Where the Capybara Thing Started
Our capybara obsession began on a family trip to Taiwan to adopt our youngest son.
Somewhere between jet lag and dumplings, we stumbled across a small farm with a herd of capybaras.
They were completely unbothered.
No rush. No drama. Just quietly existing while the world moved around them.
In that moment we realized something important:
Capybaras might actually have life figured out.
They aren’t flashy.
They aren’t fast.
They don’t try to impress anyone.
And somehow… that makes them the coolest animal on earth.
Meet Gene
Every brand needs a guide.
Ours is Gene the Capybara — the unofficial ambassador of calm, sarcasm, and low-effort wisdom. He was brought back from that trip, and became the inspiration of an entire brand.
Now, Gene shows up everywhere in the Capy Life universe:
• wandering golf courses
• teaching at suspicious wizard schools
• offering questionable life advice
• observing human chaos with mild concern
Gene represents the Capy Life mindset:
stay relaxed, stay curious, and don’t panic unless snacks are involved.
What Capy Life Is Really About
Yes, we make shirts, mugs, and all kinds of ridiculous things.
But Capy Life isn’t really about products.
It’s about celebrating a way of living that feels increasingly rare:

• weird over perfect
• curiosity over hustle
• calm over chaos
Our designs mix capybara energy with the things we love — pop culture, parenting, golf, wizard schools, everyday life, and the wonderfully strange moments that make up being human.
The Art Behind Capy Life
Most of the characters and designs you see at Capy Life start the same way:
With a sketch.
Almost all of our original designs are hand-drawn by the founder, usually somewhere between a cup of coffee, a pile of laundry, and someone asking where their shoes are.
Gene started as a simple doodle — a slightly confused capybara with a calm expression and a questionable life philosophy.
Since then he’s wandered into wizard schools, golf courses, coffee mugs, lunchboxes, and the occasional piece of parenting wisdom.
We keep the drawings intentionally simple and a little imperfect because that’s part of the charm.
Capy Life isn’t about polished perfection.
It’s about capturing the small, weird, funny moments of real life — one doodle at a time.
Our Mission
If something we make helps someone:
• laugh during a stressful day
• feel a little more relaxed
• embrace their weird side
• or simply smile at a capybara wearing sunglasses
…then we consider that a success.
The One Tragic Detail
Connecticut does not legally allow pet capybaras.
We checked.
More than once.
So until that changes, we’ll just keep building a world where capybaras are welcome everywhere.
